Micah Lee’s story begins with a near-death experience. In 2005, he hydroplaned into a canal on a rainy Florida day. Doctors feared he’d lose both legs and declared he might never walk again. But with a heart anchored in scripture and a spirit lifted by gospel, Lee defied every prognosis.
“I was in a wheelchair. Then on a walker. Every step felt like running five miles,” he recalls. “But with every step, I quoted scripture. ‘No weapon formed against me shall prosper… They that wait upon the Lord… shall run and not be weary.’ That’s how I made it through”
And that’s how “Clap My Way” was born.
An Anthem of Faith and Fire
Written alongside singer-songwriter Alvin Garrett and produced by the legendary Uncle Freddie (Darkchild Gospel), “Clap My Way” is far from a conventional gospel track. It’s an uplifting, bass-heavy groove wrapped in modern soul—infectious, danceable, and full of heart.
But beneath its “earworm” melody lies a powerful message.
“This song is a biblical blueprint for how to survive your hardest days,” Lee explains. “It’s my story—and it’s also my father’s”
Lee’s father, Deacon Arthur L. Lee, battled prostate cancer for 18 years. Even in pain, he never complained. His mantra: “It’s in God’s hands.” The song is a glowing tribute to that same spirit of courage.
A Vision in Sound and Style
The music video for “Clap My Way” is just as electric as the track itself. Directed by Will Thomas and filmed at Atlanta’s Lux Galore Studios, it’s a visual feast—bold monochrome sets, high fashion, vibrant transitions, and over 16 custom looks showcasing Micah’s signature flair.
“I wanted the video to be art. Fashion-forward, modern, God-filled,” Lee says. “We couldn’t even get to all the looks!” he laughs
From the Pulpit to the People
At his core, Micah Lee is both preacher and performer. His songs aren’t just music—they’re ministry.
“‘Clap My Way’ speaks to everyone,” he says. “This isn’t just gospel for the pews. It’s for people struggling with depression, low self-worth, or grief. For the 9-to-5ers, the students, the dreamers, the heartbroken. I want every person who listens to know they’re not alone—and they can still win.”
When asked what he hopes people take away, Lee doesn’t hesitate:
“I want them to know: you will live and not die. You can walk through that valley and still dance. Just clap your way through”
The Journey Ahead
Still grieving the recent loss of his father, Lee admits the pain is fresh. But rather than fold, he’s fueled. “Even now, I have to activate my own words. I’m clapping my way through this storm,” he shares.
And what’s next? A new full-length album—packed with truth, tears, triumph, and plenty of sonic soul.
“I plan on taking people on an emotional rollercoaster,” he smiles. “It’s going to be a good time and a testimony”
