Barbie Breaks Free! Gerwig’s Much-Awaited Doll Film & Star-Packed Soundtrack Revealed

Welcome to Barbie‘s world! The much-buzzed-about film adaptation of everyone’s favorite fashion doll, masterfully directed by Greta Gerwig, has finally made its glamorous debut in theaters on Friday, July 21. Adding an extra layer of excitement to the cinematic premiere, the movie’s official soundtrack, a treat for the ears, was also released.

The official soundtrack, helmed by the Oscar-winning songwriter and producer, Mark Ronson, is a star-studded affair, boasting contributions from pop music heavyweights such as Lizzo, Fifty Fifty, Kali, Gayle, Khalid, Haim, and Ava Max. Several singles from this rich sonic landscape have already been unleashed upon the world, two of which have secured a place on the Billboard Hot 100: Dua Lipa’s pulsating “Dance the Night” (No. 31) and the power-packed collaboration, “Barbie World,” by Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and AQUA (No. 7). Adding a more thoughtful note to the lineup, Billie Eilish’s introspective ballad, “What Was I Made For,” finds a spot in this dynamic ensemble.

The film itself is a constellation of stellar performances. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling breathe life into the roles of the iconic Barbie and her handsome beau, Ken. A host of other stars, including Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon, and Issa Rae, dazzle as Barbies, while John Cena, Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, and Scott Evans shine as different Kens. Mattel’s CEO is portrayed by the ever-charismatic Will Ferrell, and America Ferrera and Michael Cera join the fun as Gloria and Allan, adding further depth to the colorful ensemble.
