Gavyn Brooks, who goes by GSX, just dropped “Needy,” and if you’re not listening yet, that’s on you. The 18-year-old high school senior is closing out his final year at West Port High in Ocala, Florida, not with a yearbook quote, but with a full EP called “Done With Goodbyes” and a growing catalog of tracks that deserve a hell of a lot more attention.

“Needy” is the latest addition, and it’s the most emotionally cutthroat track yet. It’s alternative rock with a pulse. A post-situationship gut punch disguised as a song. The kind of track that feels too personal to stream—but you’ll do it anyway, on repeat.

And this isn’t his first drop. He recently released the official music video of his debut single, “On My Way!” on YouTube. It’s unfiltered, a little chaotic, and totally captivating.

GSX credits his close friend Jay (aka BabyCapri on Apple Music) for kicking off his music journey. And we should thank her, too, because without her, we might not have any GSX in our playlists right now! Since then, GSX has been going full speed—releasing tracks, promoting on TikTok and Instagram , and trying to grow.

The thing about Gavyn Brooks is that he’s not boxed into a genre. His sound floats between R&B, pop, indie, and rock, with flashes of country here and there. But what ties it all together is the emotion. You can tell these songs weren’t built for clout—they were built to survive something.

Still unsigned, GSX is doing everything on his own. And he’s clear about the goal:

“Get signed. Find a producer. Play real shows. Build something that lasts”

He’s not waiting to be discovered. He knows what he wants long-term: move to L.A., stay in the studio, and maybe even hit the Oscars one day. But for now, he’s just trying to get noticed, grow his audience, and earn the kind of support that could actually change his life.

He’s putting himself out there daily—on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Instagram, TikTok, and anywhere else someone might hit play. The momentum is growing. Now he just needs ears.

Success, to him, isn’t streaming numbers or viral moments. It’s about doing something meaningful and finishing it. But it’s not always smooth. Like most artists figuring it out alone, GSX faces the usual walls—writer’s block, creative burnout, and the constant hustle of promoting your own music when you’re still doing homework between takes.

Still, he keeps showing up. “No secrets,” he says. “Just work hard.”

And that’s exactly what he’s doing.
