Google’s biggest developer conference of the year, Google I/O 2025, is set to take place on May 20 and 21 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California — and it’s expected to be a full-blown showcase of the company’s latest breakthroughs in AI and Android.

The keynote, beginning at 10 a.m. PT on May 20, will feature Google CEO Sundar Pichai, DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, and leaders from Search, Cloud, and Android, unveiling new innovations that aim to redefine user experience and developer tools across Google’s ecosystem.

    AI Front and Center

The spotlight this year will firmly shine on Gemini, Google’s suite of AI models that continue to rival OpenAI, xAI, and Anthropic. A significant focus will be placed on multimodal capabilities, particularly through DeepMind’s Project Astra, an ambitious AI system designed to understand and interact with the world across text, images, audio, and more.

AI’s integration into daily Google products will be another major theme. Talks will delve into how generative AI is transforming Google Search, automating apps via AI agents, and driving advancements in Waymo’s self-driving technology. A dedicated AI stage will host sessions on how researchers and developers can harness these capabilities.

What to Expect from Android and Beyond

Updates to Android, Chrome, and Google Cloud will also roll out during the conference. Google’s Android team is anticipated to introduce new developer tools, privacy features, and user experience upgrades, setting the stage for Android’s next generation.

While not every session will be livestreamed, the developer keynote at 1:30 p.m. PT and DeepMind’s future-focused talk at 3:30 p.m. PT are must-watch moments. The event will also feature a sit-down between Demis Hassabis and podcast host Alex Kantrowitz, diving deeper into AI’s impact on science and society.

You can tune in to the livestream of the keynotes and select sessions via Google’s I/O website or YouTube channel.
