Have You Heard About the Amazing Mansion Designed by Peter Marino?

The St. Tropez mansion, designed by Peter Marino, is the epitome of luxury, overlooking the stunning Côte d’Azur. The only hint of anything athletic is the Olympic-sized pool, but that’s exactly how the architect wanted it. Marino, who’s basically revolutionized French luxury design, created this modern oasis in the heart of a traditional St. Tropez setting. It’s nestled on a lush hillside full of olive trees and palms, so the views are just breathtaking.

Peter Marino is an acclaimed New York architect. For almost 50 years, he’s been redefining French luxury with his iconic designs for brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel. But Marino’s work isn’t just about boutiques; residential design has always been a key part of his practice. You might remember his incredible renovation of Andy Warhol and Jed Johnson’s townhouse in New York City. And now, for the first time ever, his residential designs are being showcased in a book called “Peter Marino: Ten Modern Houses,” which was just released by Phaidon. This book is full of unique examples of what Marino calls “the art of habitation.”

Views of the Mediterranean

This particular St. Tropez masterpiece, finished in 2023, is a stunning blend of fieldstone and pale stucco that perfectly frames the amazing views. Imagine entering through massive bronze doors into a double-height gallery filled with impressive artwork. And get this – the whole house is bathed in natural light thanks to those huge floor-to-ceiling windows trimmed in bronze. They open up to the heart of the home, which is the backyard. But don’t worry about too much sun; there are deep overhangs, almost like the front of a ship, that are filled with plants for shade. The living room is split into two levels and has a super cool curved stainless steel fireplace as its centerpiece.

Entry Hall

Wait, there’s more! A bronze spiral staircase with a hand-stitched leather rail takes you down to a disco room, complete with colorful light columns and art inspired by retro tech, like old cassette tapes. Upstairs, the bedrooms also have those amazing floor-to-ceiling windows, and some even have balconies that wrap around corners and turn into huge terraces. Those terraces are shaded by big canopies held up by stylish V-shaped supports. Now, let’s head back outside to the backyard. It features a gorgeous curved pool with custom ceramic tiles that look like waves of green and blue. The pool is surrounded by terraces with lush greenery, natural stone, and beautiful trees.

Dining Room

On the western terrace, you’ll find an outdoor kitchen, perfect for entertaining, as well as a dining area, a lounge space, and a unique bar with custom tiles and a cool terrazzo floor. Translucent tensile structures provide shade for those sunny afternoons. If you need to burn off some calories, head down to the fitness center, which is built right into the hillside with glass walls and beautiful landscaping for privacy. A little further down the hill is a separate guesthouse, sort of an L-shape, that opens up to stunning views of the Mediterranean. It’s tucked away under canopies and surrounded by lush foliage, creating a private retreat.
