Kate Cassidy, the girlfriend of late singer Liam Payne, is opening up about their heartbreaking final moments together — just days before his tragic death in Argentina.
In an emotional recount, Cassidy described their last conversation, which she now finds “so chilling.” The two had been spending time together in Argentina when she was preparing to leave for the airport. “I remember sitting there with him and I was going on and on and on and saying to Liam how much I love him,” she recalled.
“He laughed and he interrupted me and he just said, ‘Kate, like, you’re gonna miss your flight. Your car is in the driveway. You’re acting like this is the last time you’re ever going to see me again’”
Cassidy replied lightheartedly at the time, “I know. I’m being silly! I need to get in the car, I can’t miss my flight.” But in hindsight, she says the memory now haunts her. “To even look back in time and just know that really was the last time I was able to see him again is just so chilling,” she said.
Despite the pain, Cassidy shared that she finds comfort in their final goodbye. “I’m so blessed, and this is where I get that peace from it,” she said.
“I’m so glad that we had that last beautiful moment together”
Cassidy has continued to publicly mourn the former One Direction star, admitting last month on the British morning show Lorraine that she still struggles with accepting his passing. “I find myself talking about him so much in the present tense,” she explained. “I don’t even feel the need to correct myself because that’s part of my healing journey.”
Payne, 31, died after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires. A toxicology report confirmed the presence of multiple substances in his system, including cocaine, crack cocaine, and benzodiazepines, as well as traces of “pink cocaine” — a dangerous combination that can include MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, and other drugs.
The singer leaves behind his 8-year-old son, Bear, whom he shared with ex-partner Cheryl Cole. His untimely death has sparked grief across the music world and among his millions of fans.
