Will Outrageous Come Back for Season 2? The Mitford Sisters’ Real Drama Isn’t Over Yet

If you thought Season 1 of Outrageous was, well, outrageous, you’re not alone. The BritBox miniseries dives headfirst into the true story of the Mitford sisters — six aristocratic women who defied convention, flirted with fascism, and shaped headlines through the 1930s and beyond. With its six tightly packed episodes, the show has already left fans wanting more. So the big question is: will there be a second season?

At the time of writing, BritBox hasn’t confirmed a renewal. But don’t let the silence fool you. From the show’s premiere buzz to the cast’s own enthusiasm, the appetite for a continuation is strong — and the source material hasn’t even scratched the surface.

Bessie Carter, who plays the sharp-witted Nancy Mitford, summed up the surreal experience of filming: “You just cannot believe it’s true,” she told Voke . And it’s easy to see why. Every twist, betrayal, and scandal in Outrageous is rooted in historical fact. No need for creative license — the Mitfords delivered drama on their own.

If a second season is greenlit, there’s a treasure trove of real-life stories waiting. The first installment stopped just before World War II, but the sisters’ most headline-grabbing moments happened afterward. Diana’s affair with British fascist Oswald Mosley, Unity’s obsession with Hitler, and Jessica’s communist rebellion in Spain? That’s just the beginning.

And then there’s Deborah, the youngest — a future Duchess who rubbed shoulders with the Kennedys at 16 and saved her crumbling aristocratic estate with sheer grit. Orla Hill, who plays her, is game for more. “Her sweet 16 was pretty [crazy], hanging out with the Kennedys,” she said.

“One of the most interesting things about Outrageous is you have all those really famous historical figures that we know just trickling in”

Even the show’s cast agrees that the story isn’t finished. James Purefoy (David Mitford) told the Daily Express that “they’d be mad not to” continue. Co-star Isobel Jesper Jones echoed that sentiment, teasing that the first season was just “the tip of the iceberg.”

Outrageous draws inspiration from Mary S. Lovell’s The Mitford Girls and the sisters’ own writings, so there’s a clear path forward for a multi-season narrative. More politics. More passion. More peril. Whether it’s Diana’s glamour, Unity’s radicalism, or Nancy’s razor-sharp wit, this isn’t a tale that ends quietly.

For now, fans will have to wait. But if BritBox decides to revisit this wild aristocratic web, Season 2 of Outrageous could be even more explosive than the first.
