    There’s a new queen in WWE’s women’s division!

Zelina Vega has officially etched her name into the history books, winning the WWE Women’s United States Championship for the first time in her career. The monumental victory took place on SmackDown Friday night, where Vega defeated Chelsea Green to end Green’s inaugural reign at 142 days.

Vega, a proud member of the LWO faction, had built momentum with back-to-back non-title wins over Green in recent weeks. Those victories earned her the opportunity to compete for the championship—and she made the most of it. With Green’s “Secret Service” ejected from ringside, Vega seized the moment, countering Green’s offense and delivering her signature move, the Code Red, to score the pinfall.
As she clutched the title, Zelina was visibly emotional, marking a career-defining moment after years of perseverance.

Chelsea Green had made history by becoming the first-ever Women’s United States Champion after winning the title at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, but her reign has now come to a dramatic end thanks to Vega’s tenacity.

Ahead of WrestleMania weekend, Vega spoke to USA TODAY Sports about her aspirations to someday hold the Women’s United States Championship, reflecting on her journey through WWE. After facing setbacks—including a brief departure from WWE in 2020—she has been with the company for nearly eight years, constantly pushing for that elusive singles gold.

The former Women’s Tag Team Champion also praised the introduction of the Women’s U.S. title, emphasizing its impact on the competitive women’s roster.
“It’s a nice feeling when you have something else to chase,” Vega said. “It’s a nice recognition for the other women, giving them other stories that they get to mix it up with in a way that they haven’t before. I think it’s amazing.”

With this historic win, Zelina Vega not only fulfills a personal dream but also opens a thrilling new chapter in WWE’s vibrant women’s division. Congratulations to the new champion!
